SUSAYE GREENE
Susaye Greene is a Grammy-winning American vocalist, songwriter, visual artist and creative entrepreneur whose career spans decades of musical and artistic excellence. Born in Houston, Texas, she began performing professionally at a very young age and quickly became known for her powerful voice, refined phrasing and impressive vocal range.
She first gained international recognition as a featured vocalist with Ray Charles’ legendary Raelettes and later toured and recorded with Stevie Wonder as part of his Wonderlove ensemble. In 1976, she became the final officially appointed member of The Supremes, appearing on their last studio recordings and helping to close the chapter of one of the most iconic vocal groups in music history.
As a songwriter, Susaye co-wrote “I Can’t Help It” with Stevie Wonder for Michael Jackson’s multi-platinum album Off the Wall, and the timeless classic “Free” for Deniece Williams. Both songs remain defining works within the soul and R&B repertoire.
Alongside her legendary collaborations, Susaye built a strong solo career. Her albums No Fear Here and Brave New Shoes highlight her unique blend of soul, jazz and pop influences, showcasing her depth as both a vocalist and storyteller. Earlier in her career she also released the duet project Partners with Scherrie Payne, further demonstrating her versatility.
Beyond music, Susaye is deeply involved in the visual arts and is an accomplished painter who continuously explores new creative directions.
